Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"This week, we worked on a variety of topics ranging from reviewing logs, working with graphs of exponential functions, and limits. She showed a solid understanding of finding horizontal and vertical asymptotes - I was very impressed she remembered the rules for H.A.s in particular. She received a 29/30 on her last homework which is awesome and she made fewer algebraic mistakes than her first session with me! She has a test coming up next Friday and we will be working hard to give her the confidence to reach her full potential for! The end of the session we worked with graphing exponential functions which was a tough topic, and I plan on reviewing some strategies for those questions next week."
"Today the student and I did our final prep for the student's midterm tomorrow. We started by reviewing the cases for L'Hopital's rule. Then, we worked on other limit rules. Finally, we completed the student's review sheet for the midterm."
"Today the student and I worked on a functional analysis. This consisted of finding the asymptotes (vertical, horizontal, and slant), intercepts (x and y), relative extrema (and intervals of increase and decrease), and inflection points (and intervals of positive and negative concavity). He already knew the basics of these, but I gave him some useful tips and tricks regarding asymptotes. I also highly suggested that he becomes less dependent on his calculator, and focuses more on understanding the concepts."
"Today the student and I worked through a series of problems involving finding the average value of a function over a given interval as well as the second fundamental theorem of calculus. As usual, I worked through the problems before our session, and he worked through each of them himself one at a time in front of me so that he could check his work and receive immediate feedback. He did well on these problems and only made a few arithmetical mistakes. He has a test on Monday, so we will meet again on the preceding Sunday in order to prepare for it."
"Today was a test preparation night while reviewing limits, equation of a line, polar coordinates, and average rate of change. Student did very well, but she struggled a little on slope set up. I recommended that she label her x's and y's moving forward. I feel that she will be a success on her test."
"Today we covered definition of limits using epsilon-delta and covered two limit problems. The student wasn't really struggling, and his attitude was positive. We covered the strategy for finding the relationship between delta and epsilon, especially delta in terms of epsilon if epsilon is not given. The student seemed to have a pretty good understanding of the majority of the subject."
