Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Today, the student and I went over some difficult problems that he was having trouble understanding and then the synthesis problems on his practice final. He seems like he will do well on his final, as long as he studies the reactants and reagents list that he made."
"Today, we worked on clarifying concepts from the student's recitation session. These involved E2 exceptions, chair conformations, retro-synthesis problems, and nomenclature problems. The student mentioned that she was able to answer questions from her office hours, which she hadn't been able to do prior to the tutoring sessions! This suggests that the tutoring is definitely helping the student. As always, she was very receptive and attentive."
"We did the fundamentals of H-NMR, and we looked at two H-NMR problems. We did the Robinson annulation reaction, and we talked about why endo Diels-Alder products are favored vs exo products. She was having the hardest time with H-NMR, but she picked it up very fast. We went into detail about how to approach H-NMR problems."
"We finished up carbohydrates today and started on lipids. We talked a lot about isomers, especially in sugars. We covered fatty acid reactions and phospholipids. In bio, we covered communities and niches."
"We focused on solving complex problems involving predicting products of organic reactions involving multiple steps. In particular, we focused on the Grignard reaction and predicting products as well as predicting reactants to make a particular product."
"We focused on synthesis reactions exclusively, working through common synthesis reactions, and then moving onto more challenging 5 and 6 step syntheses. We worked on the strategy of starting from the final product and working backward to solve the more difficult problems. The student had an excellent attitude and made a lot of progress throughout the session."
