Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student had division for his math homework. He worked really well with dividing decimals and adding a zero until there is no remainder. He has worksheets to help with rounding, and he did have a multiplication drill, scoring a 70/100. To increase his fluency the student will have a weekly multiplication fact sheet due by the next session time. He also had estimating with compatible numbers homework, which he did really well with."
"The student had four pages of math homework which was doing the problem and estimating the problem. After awhile I realized she was confused about order of operations, and I explain to her how to complete the problem correctly. This took longer than our normal sessions because of the intensity of the work but, after showing her this method, she seemed to complete problems quicker. She will need to complete the two remaining problems that are left."
"The student had his usual Reading and Math worksheets. We spent the first half of the session completing those. The student feels really good about adding four-digit numbers, so he was able to do his Math pretty easily. He took his time and did not make mistakes. We also began typing today on an online typing game. His teacher suggests at least 10-15 minutes a day, so the student spent a solid 15 minutes on his first typing lesson. We did not finish the whole lesson, but it was a good introduction to the activity, and I think he will be more motivated to do typing in the future. Lastly, we went over Level 6 of speed Math to prep for his test tomorrow. He still struggles with a few division problems, but he is close to passing the level."
"The student had homework in both reading and math so that is what I focused on. Reading- I supervised her writing each spelling word, and then asked her to spell each one orally. She missed just two words, so I gave her a tip on how to remember them. She also read a chapter from her required reading book. She did very well in her reading. Math- She quickly solved the math computation and number sentences. Since she finished so fast, and correctly, I did some practice with her on my dry board with the factors of -3. She is supposed to be tested on them later this week. Following everything, I read to her from the Frozen book, as a reward for such a good hour of work. She enjoyed every page."
"The student had math homework to complete involving subtraction. He has been working on his plus 1 facts and more recently, his doubles facts. We played some math games to help him work on his facts, and then did close reading of nonfiction. The student had to find the text evidence using crayons."
"The student had quite a few math problems for us to work on today, so 90% of our time was spent with these. His competency at long division and large number addition and subtraction has improved greatly. We spent a short time on graphing inequalities and on reciprocals, and I introduced him to finding area in complex irregular shapes by dividing them into known shapes. He had good focus today."
