"Concepts covered were algebra, geometry, graphing quadratic functions, and solving quadratic by factoring. Provided suggestions included steps to graphing quadratics and quick graphing, and I emphasized checking all work to know if the answer is correct. He seemed very happy with information provided and the new ability to easily identify the points to graph a quadratic equation accurately and quickly. He liked the idea to check work to be sure graph and factoring are correct. He's delighted we are caught up with class lessons. "
"Concepts covered: Operations with fractions, how to change fraction to decimal and percentage, and vice versa. Then we did practice for test from school. The student didn't have any problems in this preparation for test. As always, she was keen to follow all concepts and materials and did her best. She knew she has to remember things for test, such as combining like-terms is addition, not multiplication. She is able to change fraction to mixed number. After doing her homework, she can take a picture of her work and send it to me before the test, and I will check. I also suggested her downloading an Algebra Practice app on her cellphone, which will give her 1 problem a day, so she can do 1 Algebra problem a day, check the correct answer and see explanation."
"Concepts the student and I covered included exponents and scientific notation. She needed help with negatives related to exponents, so we went over that in detail. She was focused and wanted do as many problems as she could for review. I included the strategy that when there is a negative sign next to a number with an exponent, and it is not in parentheses, then she should think of it as a multiplication by negative one after simplifying the exponent. She is proficient in problem solving overall, and knows which areas that she needs help on."
"Concepts we covered: definition of a function, Vertical Line Test, solving functions, substituting negative numbers, domain/range of functions. She was hesitant to answer questions, but seemed to understand the concepts more than she let on. We went over test taking skills, centered on how to write answers for open-ended explanation questions. I made up extra practice problems and went over them with her. "
"Covered algebraic transformations of graphs of simple quadratic equations, as well as covering the Domain and Range of the functions. He was attentive and interested, and should do well going forward."
"Covered how to solve equations (linear) and graph them. We did a bunch of problems, and she caught on very fast and she already knew most of the material. She just needed a bit of help with setting up word problems, which I gave her tips on how to solve. She got better at it, and it went very well!"
