Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student completed the grammar section online. I reviewed his math homework in his new 5th grade textbook. He read a section about elements and compounds from the reading program. He wrote an essay about molecular structures. He then read from the novel Captains Courageous."
"The students both reviewed their extra practice with me. Student 1 got one wrong out of both pages, and Student 2 got 9 wrong total. She seemed to do better with bigger numbers, so we went back and reviewed some more questions that were two digit by two digit. We got into subtraction (without regrouping), but I plan to spend more time on this next time we work on math. I noticed that both kids need to work on their addition and subtraction fluency. I recommend using a math website for this or making or buying flashcards. This will help immensely with their subtraction and addition. Student 2 has a misconception about adding with carrying still, so we will continue working on that. I will send extra practice assignments in the morning."
"The students finished their summer tutoring with finishing their addition and subtraction work. The boys accomplished a great deal over the summer and I believe they will do well in second grade! I truly enjoyed working with them."
"This book was new for me, and it has a different setup, so there was a bit of a learning curve for me there. I jumped around on the questions in the book, and I think sometimes I jumped too far ahead. I had to think harder to come up with more fun examples this time since these are all new concepts. I'll do some thinking between now and Saturday for more interactive examples. Overall, I just wanted the student to get used to writing things out step-by-step as opposed to doing multiple steps in his head and then finding it difficult to do long math equations/expressions from getting things mixed up."
"This first session was more for me understanding what the client wanted and what the kids already knew. I sent an email to her informing her of the subjects they both need to work on. Both students were very courteous and kind."
"This session was used to review for his quiz. It will be over the information that they covered in the Pre-Algebra crash course as well as other information that they have learned. He knows the information."
