Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Today we worked on finding the antiderivative of a graph and drawing a rough sketch of that graph. This concept built on previous lessons, and will be very important for the rest of the semester. The student seemed to understand this material very well."
"Today we worked on going through some of the troublesome types of problem, like derivatives with square roots, complex polynomial derivatives and trigonometric function derivatives and proofs. He seemed well prepared to do well on his exam tomorrow."
"Today we worked on the student's homework and touched on the epsilon-delta definition of the derivative. She seemed fairly solid with most concepts that will be covered on her quiz next week. Our goals next week are to work on proving the epsilon-delta definition of the derivative and using the definition to prove the values of derivatives."
"Today with the student we covered concepts of limits and derivatives applied to finding the limit of functions. We went through some homework he had already attempted to work on and towards the end of the session we went through some practice problems in preparation for his upcoming test. I have asked him to work through a sample test on his own and to time himself so that he can prepare for the test. Tomorrow we agreed to go over the practice test in an hour session as to identify areas he may need more help with. He is a very good student to work with."
"Today, he and I worked on derivatives, implicit differentiation, tangent lines, and extreme values. We started with an example involving implicit differentiation. We went over how to take the first and second derivative using implicit differentiation. We got to practice using the product rule and quotient rule while doing so. We also went over how to find the tangent line to the graph of a function at a certain point and did several cases of that. Lastly, we went over how to find extreme values of a function over a closed interval. We will meet again next Sunday."
"Today, I explained the Chain Rule for taking derivatives and worked with him as he worked through a few problems, and then I explained some concepts that should help him with the problems on his review sheet. I also suggested he read first few pages of each section he doesn't feel comfortable with and follow along with the example problems."
