Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I went over power series and expansion/representation in great detail. We covered numerous examples to ensure full understanding of the material."
"During our session, the student and I reviewed natural logarithmic functions. We practiced manipulating logarithmic functions by breaking them down into simpler forms and then solving. We also reviewed the graphing trends of log functions. Lastly we found the derivative of these functions by employing chain rule, product rule, and quotient rule and used the derivative to find local minima or maxima. He was very productive and we were able to get through most of the chapter homework in one session."
"This was my first session with the student. We went through his midterm review sheets and essentially went over everything that will be on his midterm to the extent necessary based on how he felt about his grasp of each topic. During our review, it seemed really clear that he has a strong grasp on the math. He had some questions, but a lot of what he needed was simply reassurance that he was doing the math correctly. He made a number of simple mistakes, and we discussed strategies to avoid (or catch these mistakes). We discussed strategies to try to alleviate/forget about test pressure and simply do the math."
"Today we covered factoring polynomials that didn't have the coefficient a =1. The student understood the concept behind finding the factors of the a and c parts of the equation, then using those to find the binomial, then setting each binomial equal to 0 and solving for x. The trial and error process he also understood."
"We covered: translating addition and subtraction algebraic expression and evaluating multi-step expressions. The student seemed to have a positive attitude and was well aware of the things that he knew and what he did not. He was also willing to work multiple problems and try to work through things. We did extra problems based on the material that was covered in class earlier today. I will make a practice test for the next session."
"During this session together, the student and I worked on composite/ prime numbers as well as how to find equivalent and reduced fractions. At the end of our session, he had a clear understanding of the concepts, so he felt ready to do well on his upcoming quiz/exam. As always, I sincerely enjoyed our time together and look forward to meeting with him again next week!"
