Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"During this session, we reviewed some of his material from the chapter on evolution. He has a quiz over the material next week. We talked a lot about the different evidences of evolution and the mechanisms of evolution, such as different types of adaptations. I felt like we made a lot of progress during the session and he developed a better knowledge of the material."
"During this session, we reviewed DNA replication, RNA transcription, and translation. These are very complex topics, and she was confused by all the terminology, but we made a study guide to outline the important information and made diagrams to help understand how all these processes are related. Seeing an overall picture of these processes seemed to greatly help her, and she now feels more comfortable about her test this week."
"Tonight we covered transcription and translation of DNA in preparation for her exam next Tuesday. We also reviewed materials ahead of class- mutations, gel electrophoresis, and splicing. Diagrams from the internet were utilized for explanations because the student is more of a visual learner. We will continue working with memorization of the basic concepts and the ability to apply them to later questions. I am confident that we will be able to form a solid foundation so she has a better grasp on the material as the subject matter becomes more detailed."
"We did an extra credit section on natural immunity for HIV, then we focused on definitions for the student's next section on microbiology - antibody, antigen, specific immunity vs. non-specific immunity, T cells, B cells, lytic cycle, lysogenic cycle, pathogens, microorganisms, virus, cocci/bacilli, spirilli, disease transmission, primary vs. secondary immune response, vaccines, antibiotics, incubation, WBCs, and inflammation."
"We met in order to review biology before a big assessment in the student's class. She was learning about DNA, specifically how it is structured and its uses in medicine as well as other areas. Mainly we reviewed DNA technologies, including polymerase chain reaction, gel electrophoresis, etc. We then shifted focus to how these technologies are used today in order to screen for various disorders and even to help put a suspect at the scene of his or her crime. She already had a good grasp of the material and just wanted some last minute review to tie everything together. Before I left, I also quickly went over circles, which is the topic that she is currently on in geometry. However, she seems very confident in her knowledge in this area and did not seem to need much help."
"The student has an upcoming state assessment exam. We worked on a strategy on how to study for the next set of weeks, and we have also gone over the scientific method. He has had significant improvement, with a 91 on his most recent exam. With a little extra effort, I believe similar results can be observed in his state assessment performance. He was focused and earnest in his attempts to learn; I have high expectations of his performance."
