I am a student of the Stevens Institute of Technology and am currently pursuing my Bachelor's in Chemical Engineering. As the oldest sibling in a family of 4 brothers and sisters, I know what it is like to have someone depend on me, and how to help them succeed. I have the ability and patience to teach those younger than me about topics I have mastered throughout my schooling. I love to talk and have a bad habit of making friends with everyone I meet! I love teaching and seeing my students improve over time, like watching my own children grow up. The subject I am most passionate about teaching is math, math, and math! Seeing different equations and variables click together to make a coherent, objective statement is always fun to see, and it is fun teaching my students how to understand this in the grand scheme of life. When I am not going crazy for equations, I am reading long fantasy novels, gaming, or improving my tennis play.

I am currently a middle school Language Arts teacher in a Gifted and Talented Public School in Elizabeth, NJ. I was born in Miami, FL and moved to Elizabeth at a very young age. I was raised and educated (K-12) in Elizabeth and am honored to be giving back to my community as a teacher in such a progressive district! As an undergraduate and graduate student, I attended Fairleigh Dickinson University in Madison, NJ. In 2008, I received my BA in Psychology and MA in Teaching in 2009. Over the course of my high school and college experiences, I tutored students in primary grades (K-5) in Reading, Writing, and Mathematics. Currently, as a Language Arts teacher, I meet with students individually and in small groups regularly to target specific Reading and Writing concepts/skills that they are struggling with. I believe weaknesses are strengths in disguise. With hard work and dedication, anything is possible. That is my tutoring/teaching philosophy. I enjoy getting to know my students and building relationships with them. As an educator, I try to individualize my teaching practices for my students in a way that will be relatable and understandable for them. Some students prefer visual elements in a lesson while others enjoy something a little more "hands on." Analyzing a complex text or writing an essay to a rigorous prompt are not easy tasks; however, with my help, we can complete such tasks and complete them well in no time! I am a graduate of Caldwell University. I received my Bachelor of Arts in Chemistry. Since graduation, I have tutored students primarily in the core from elementary to middle school. While I tutor a broad range of subjects, I am most passionate about Science, Math, and History. In my experience, helping students needing to improve through a new fun approach. School is already very structured, so I like to take the learning to a more fun approach. We can also prepare for Standardized Tests, etc. I love learning and teaching and there is nothing that a student cannot learn. All you need is a little extra help, nothing short of your own true success. In my spare time, I enjoy martial arts, mostly Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.

Education is part of who I am. I have been a student for my entire life and I understand the physical and mental journey that being a student takes you on. Although sometimes difficult, I've always enjoyed every aspect of it. I welcome new challenges and topics constantly and I am proud to say I have proficiency in many. I have a Bachelor's degree in Forensic Science concentrating in toxicology which was awarded to me through John Jay College of Criminal Justice in New York. Aside from my science background which includes organic chemistry, biology, algebra, trigonometry, calculus, instrumental analysis, analytical chemistry, physics, and analytical toxicology, I am verse in the arts and have extensive experience with creative writing, theatre, and music performance (specifically vocal, violin, cello, and guitar). I am also bilingual and tutor Spanish for those that wish to learn how to speak, read, and write everyday common Spanish.

I believe true education is collaborative and experiential. Some things we can learn on our own by doing, but others require seeing an issue from a different perspective for real understanding. My approach to tutoring is not to batter students with information for rote memorization but rather to guide them to solve their own problems through a deeper understanding of the issues at hand. Although no approach can be purely non-directive, it is my goal to only guide as much as I need to in order to help the student understand the problem and make the appropriate adjustment. I feel the measure of my success is the extent to which a student's comprehension has increased with as little direct instruction from me as possible.
