Session Summaries by Physiology Tutors

Physiology Tutoring review by Loreal in Salt Lake City, UT
We covered energetics and thermodynamics topics. She was moderately comfortable with the topic but was struggling with advanced problems. We worked on the problems that she had and went over a number of practice problems. She seemed much more confident on the subject after our session, and I think she will do well on her quiz.

Physiology Tutoring review by Sara in Salt Lake City, UT
The student has just started reaction types and had typed notes on synthesis and decomposition reactions. I had the student give examples of each type of synthesis and decomposition reaction listed in her notes. This also gave her practice writing chemical formulas and balancing equations. I found some online practice that reviewed the concepts, and we went over them for the rest of the session. I left her with the double replacement ones to do for practice. I also briefly talked about combustion reactions with her. The student is getting very, very good at balancing reactions and writing compound formulas. Once she realized what the pattern was behind identifying reaction types, she caught on very quickly.

We focused on the different gas laws to prepare for the student's test on Thursday. We also conducted some aspects of unit conversion for ideal gas law. We completed at least 15 practice problems. We also conducted an overview of Graham's rate of effusion law. Student initially struggled with concept of how to organize information but through repetition and defining each variable the student became more confident with the material. The student was tasked to complete six additional problems outside of the session.

We reviewed for the student's upcoming science test. We covered food webs, ecosystems, and an introduction to photosynthesis and respiration. The student worked slowly but seemed to understand some of the concepts. He has a stronger grasp of food webs, consumers and producers than energy and cell biology. He will have review sheets and a vocabulary list to study for the next two days.

Physiology Tutoring review by Jessica in Salt Lake City, UT
We covered both geometry and physical science. She did well with the geometry and was able to work through the problems on her own for the most part. She only made small mistakes that were calculation based, not comprehension based. For physical science we worked through determining the velocity, frequency, wavelength, indexes of refraction, and angles of refraction based on formulas. Once the variables were explained for the formula in relationship to the problem, she did very well interpreting the problems after one example problem.

Physiology Tutoring review by Tirsit in Salt Lake City, UT
She scored a 78 on her last exam, which is an improvement. Her next exam is on Friday April 10, on the nervous and motor systems. Today we covered the nervous system, specifically the action potential (which I sent her notes on) and the anatomy of the brain.
