I graduated from The Pennsylvania State University with a Bachelor’s in Life Science. Throughout college, I tutored students in a broad range of science courses, and served as a teaching assistant for my favorite 400-level physiology class. I am most passionate about Physiology and Anatomy, because of their direct impact on human life, and their important role in the foundation of medicine. Apart from working throughout my college career, I was involved in the pre-medical honor society as an executive board member, and was extremely involved in THON, the largest student-run philanthropy in the world. It is a no-sitting, no-sleeping 46-hour dance marathon in which Penn State students raise money for pediatric cancer.I recently moved to New York City, where I interact with and assist patients and physicians daily at an urgent care center. I am currently seeking admission to medical school, and take every opportunity to continue my own learning, while assisting others in theirs. I believe in guiding students through new concepts by breaking them down into smaller parts, including what they already know, then building upon that. The application of what we already know helps us gain a deeper understanding of the new concepts, reinforces the old ones, and fosters the confidence we need to thrive in academia.In my free time, I enjoy traveling, horseback riding, running, yoga and reading. I also enjoy experimenting in the kitchen with new recipes, catching up with friends over a good cup of coffee, and cheering on Penn State.

My aspiration since my matriculation at college has been to pursue medicine, and I have just recently finished piecing together my application for medical school. However, having also taken many AP courses in high school, I have a thorough working knowledge in English, Mathematics, Social Studies, Spanish, and Psychology. In my free time, I am an avid soccer player and music fanatic (particularly alternative/independent rock). I recently graduated from NYU Polytechnic School of Engineering with a bachelors of science in Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering. During my time as an undergraduate student I volunteered for Women for Afghan Women, an organization designed to foster a nurturing environment to underprivileged women and children. I had the privilege of tutoring and mentoring these bright children who often come from troubled families. My work entailed not only helping them with school work but also helping them cope with the situation they're in. I also had the opportunity to tutor for the Polytechnic Tutoring Center, which provides walk-in group tutoring for students attending the University. I tutored General Chemistry for Engineers, General Chemistry 1 &2, and Physical Chemistry. I learned to tailor my efforts towards each individual student and see which method best suited them. I firmly believe that each student has the ability to excel in whatever they wish as long as they believe in themselves, a value I hope to instill in all my students. I have worked with many students including special needs children diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder, Oppositional Defiance Disorder and some emotionally disturbed children. I have experience in the medical microbiology lab at the Hawaii Department of Health and a virology research lab at University of Hawaii at Manoa. I love Microbiology and Spanish! I have been studying Spanish language and linguistics for the past ten years, and combined with my Hispanic background I have been able to successfully complete a competitive interpreter training course at the University of Hawaii at Manoa. I did not learn about my love for Biology and my appreciation for the sciences until my undergraduate career. After finishing my B.S. in Biology, I pursued further graduate coursework at the University of Copenhagen in Denmark. There, I studied Molecular and Human Biology. Performing research, assisting classes, and organizing seminars during graduate school inspired me to pursue a temporary job as an adjunct professor upon returning to the U.S. Teaching here in New York City has better enhanced my pedagogical skills and has taught me a great deal about the differences between group learning scenarios and one-on-one tutoring sessions. I'm a current medical student located in Chicago studying for my board exams. I was home-schooled during middle and high school and from this experience I learnt the importance of self motivation as well the need to have someone that will give you the extra push when you need it. The flexibility of homeschooling gave me the opportunity to participate in the dual enrollment program at my local community college in Gastonia, NC. It was during this time, my first experience in a public school setting, that I realized my love for tutoring. During a college math course I was asked by a fellow student to explain the concepts we were going over in class. She later told me about failing 3 consecutive exams and was on the verge of quitting. After our third session together she began to see improvements in her homework grades and was able to score an 88% on her math exams. To me the greatest highlight of my time at that institution was when we "high-fived" after she got her test score.I transferred to Queens University after high school graduation; there I was offered a position as a physics and organic chemistry tutor my junior and senior year. I've always taken pride in helping students, and hold to the belief that anything worth doing is worth doing well; even when the job is tutoring. One Saturday I was stuck in the library for 8 hours with a tutee going over concepts in physics. Of course after our long session we both swore never to look at physics again, but the following Monday there I was at the Center for Academic Success with another student.Throughout my educational endeavor I've being privileged to help students both in my class and the classes behind me.
