The student and I mainly went over physics questions that had to do with forces, the rate of change of momentum, and equilibrium. We reviewed a few of his midterm topics for a little bit but spent most of our 3 hours doing practice problems. He showed me some of his physics homework problems that his professor was going to focus on and we went over those in more detail. He need a little help understanding the overall concepts so we went over the general idea of free body diagrams and equilibrium to solidify his understanding.

The student and I went over some final questions on physics. Specifically, we studied circuits and the mathematical equations involved. He had a good understanding of the material almost immediately. There was one question at the end, a cumulative-understanding type of question, that was a little tough to get through. However, getting through that question answered his unanswered questions. Everything is getting much better. I showed him further reading and studying materials, like always, in case he might get lost while I am not available.

Today we looked at energy and work related to physical masses, conservation of energy concepts, gravitational/elastic potential energy, and kinetic energy. We practiced how to go about solving the multiple steps, and how to properly break up the problem to be able to find the unknown. The student doesn't really struggle to understand any concepts presented to her. She might need a little practice to become proficient, but she understands concepts rapidly.

Today's session was dedicated to transcription and translation as well as the finer points of DNA, including replication, structure and function. We discussed the genetic dogma in great detail, and finished the session by discussing mutations and their potential effects on proteins. The student has a wonderful grip on the material. Since these will most likely be on her test, I want to make sure that she can know how to approach them. We will plan to meet next Tuesday, and discuss the cell cycle and mitosis/meiosis.
