Oceanside, CA Physics tutoring
Today we went through the first 2/3 of the student's open assignment on electric fields. She seemed to understand it fairly well, allow there was a sticking point with field direction conventions. I was impressed to note her retention of trig/vector math from a few weeks ago. Well done!

We went over the study guide for the student's test tomorrow. We talked about a mnemonic for remembering acceleration directions for speeding up/slowing down. We practiced using the equations for position, velocity, and acceleration, and went over drawing a scale on a quantitative graph.

Today was our first session, and the student's physics class is currently covering momentum. We started by discussing what momentum was and the general way to solve momentum problems - by knowing that in a system without external forces the initial momentum will always equal the final momentum. We did problems on collisions as well as problems when the initial momentum is zero. We then went on to discuss impulse (a change in momentum on an object) and how impulse related to force.

Oceanside, CA Physics tutoring
In our session, we worked through several homework problems using variables to model the dynamics of various systems. This material was much more difficult, due to the fact that working with variables instead of numbers can be much harder to conceptualize. The student and I got through three of the problems, which were primarily on rotating and periodic systems

Oceanside, CA Physics tutoring
The student and I covered solving physics equations for an unknown variable. We also went over basic trigonometry. She caught onto ideas quickly and with ease. She had a good attitude and persisted with good energy for the entire session. We talked about the fact that she should go over her notes from today's session before we met again so that the ideas could gel and she could ask if anything in hindsight didn't make sense.
