Bayonne, NJ Physics tutoring
Today we finished up the last couple of problems from the student's work on Coulomb's law. One of the problems required the student to use vector components to find the overall magnitude and direction of the force on a charge. This was a good review since the student hasn't seen any vectors in a few weeks. She did really well with the problem. The last problem was really challenging because it required the student to use the quadratic formula. the student has not had very much practice with the quadratic formula so this was also good review for her. We practice using the calculator a lot and I walk her through any tips and tricks I may have but she still seems to get a little lost. We will continue to work on this so that she becomes more confident using a calculator and doesn't get any wrong answers because of calculator error. Overall, the student has done really well with the Coulomb's law concepts.

The student and I went over physics concepts and questions dealing with momentum and collisions. Momentum is always conserved and therefore change in momentum is just transferred from one object to the next. And the change in momentum is therefore the impulse. Keep that in mind to then derive momentum and kinetic energy equations depending on elastic versus inelastic collisions.

The student and I went over her most recent test which she got a B on. This test focused on the concepts of electricity. We reviewed every problem she got wrong. Next we began the homework for the next chapter which focused on resistance in electrical circuits. Using a few equations we completed the homework together and I helped her manipulate and choose which equations to use. We will meet again this weekend.

Today, the student and I worked on magnetism and reviewed dynamics. As soon as she was able to understand foundation, her difficulties basically went away. I went over right hand/ left hand rules with her. I left her with studying materials for magnetism.

We were reviewing for her test tomorrow. She had worksheets from the professor, which we worked through. We completed 2 full problems, and I explained the thought process and how to solve the last one. She had a pretty good understanding at the beginning; I was just helping her understand when to do what step and explain some concepts. She felt much more confident in the material now, and she feels that she will do significantly better on the exam tomorrow than the one last week.

We continued our review for the final. Today we worked on motion in two dimensions, and reviewed friction, as well as free body diagrams. We did some trig review, and covered in brief universal gravitation and Kepler's laws. We also talked about solving problems in terms of energy or kinematics and showed their equivalence.
