Session Summaries by Physical Chemistry Tutors

Physical Chemistry Tutoring review by Roozbeh in Cranston, RI
We went through the student's physics homework. It was about motion and tensions. I explained to her how she has to draw a diagram and separate the components of each force and add them to find the total. She understood the problems, and she was able to do them by herself. She is doing spectacularly.

Physical Chemistry Tutoring review by Asta in Cranston, RI
I spent most of the session with the student on understanding her current physics unit. She struggled with relating position, velocity, and acceleration. I explained to her how to read a position vs time graph, how to translate that into a velocity vs time graph, and how to translate that into an acceleration vs time graph. I then explained to her how to use the equation she was taught for acceleration. We then worked through a practice worksheet she got from class. She was able to do most of the worksheet on her own correctly.

Physical Chemistry Tutoring review by Jesse in Cranston, RI
We did a last-minute review session before a test tomorrow. We re-hashed all of the review material on Forces, Accelerations, and Kinematics that we reviewed last time. The student struggled the most with adding force vectors, though with some visual aid, she got it in the end. She had a positive attitude.

Physical Chemistry Tutoring review by Michael in Cranston, RI
Today, we continued practicing with more projectile motion and kinematics problems in two dimensions to prepare for the student's test tomorrow. He felt more comfortable working through the problems. One of the things I pointed out was that if a velocity and angle is given, the first thing that needs to be done is to break it down into components in each direction (x & y) using basic trig. Another key point I made was that the angles drawn in the triangles have to be tied back to the reference angle of the coordinate system. Overall, he felt more comfortable with the material today.

Physical Chemistry Tutoring review by Garrett in Cranston, RI
The student and I spent our session working on plane electromagnetic (EM) waves. We discussed the origin of the wave equation for EM waves, the relationship between the E-field and B-field of the waves, the mean intensity of the waves, and the meaning of intensity. I then coached him through a homework problem involving these ideas. Afterward, we discussed how to find the reflection and transmission coefficients for waves by making use of continuity conditions and energy flux conservation. I was then able to coach him about a third of the way through a homework problem involving applying the same ideas to a more complicated case involving EM waves.

Today, we went over another exam. We covered wave phenomena and E&M. The student was strong in circuits and Ohm's law.
