Physical Chemistry Tutoring review by Clinton in Anaheim, CA
During today's session with the student, I was introduced to his online Biology course. It is systematically organized by modules, each module containing several slides that teach important concepts. Then at the end of each module, is a test. Today, we covered the scientific method, the definition of science and what kinds of questions science can answer. We examined the differences between hypotheses, laws, and theories. Additionally, we learned about different types of microscopes (light, electron) and the structure and function of each type.

Today's session revolved around research pertaining to lung capacities as it relates to the specific genders. The student's biology project tests the hypothesis that men have a greater lung capacity than women. We used multiple reliable scientific search engines to find at least five articles that she will be able to cite in her paper.

Physical Chemistry Tutoring review by Ron in Anaheim, CA
This week we reviewed the concept of hydrogen bonding to explain why water has a greater density compared with lipids. I also explained some basic concepts from the periodic table, especially atomic mass, atomic number, and how to calculate the number of neutrons in the nucleus of an atom. I explained electronegativity in relation to the periodic table. Finally, the concept of how enzymes work and act upon substrates to lower activation energy was discussed and how the efficiency of a reaction is temperature dependent. The student has a test on this material on September 17th.

Physical Chemistry Tutoring review by Sara in Anaheim, CA
The format of our tutoring sessions is the student acts as the teacher and teaches me the material he learned from the slides. When I see the student doesn't understand something or he is missing a point, I teach it to him. Then, he reteaches it back to me so I make sure he understands it. We went through Chapter 25. He knew most of the information, but I filled in some points. Before his test, we will review the chapters in a much shorter fashion. We started the next chapter today and have homework problems in the back of the book.

Physical Chemistry Tutoring review by Matthew in Anaheim, CA
This was the student's last session before her exams. This time we looked at chemistry problems involving equilibrium. Most of these questions required making ICE tables and then solving quadratic equations based on the formula for the equilibrium constant. It's easy to make mistakes in the elaborate calculations involved, but she seemed to do well.
