Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Covered unit 2.1 from his textbook in great detail. Went over homework and practice problems towards the end. Student seemed to understand material at a high level. He is showing good grades in class (A average after few exams)."
"Critical points, inequalities and graph solutions were all covered today. The student did well. She seemed to mostly struggle with understanding how to solve the problems. Once we worked through a few of them she did very well on her own in solving the rest of the problems."
"Due to the prior completion of the student's test-review, we were able to review areas on the review that he felt weak on. I assigned him practice problems in order for the information to solidify. We reviewed all of the class notes, making extra sure that every concept was covered. We spent the last ten minutes or so going over SAT prep work. It was an extremely productive session."
"During our session, we worked on functions, inverse functions, transformations of functions, determining whether an function is even, odd, or neither, and graphing piecewise functions. In addition, we worked on basic math skills that would be tested during an ACT/SAT/PSAT exam. I discussed with the student that since she is taking advanced math at a young age, she will need to keep up with her basic algebra/geometry skills because these will be tested on her entrance exams for college. We also looked over her unit one exam on matrices. Mistakes were simple and mostly related to rushing through the exam in order to finish. We talked about different strategies such as staring problems she wasn't sure about and going over when she had extra time at the end, as well as when using the calculator, to double check that she input the numbers correctly. Very happy to be working with her again this year!"
"During this session we went over the current chapter that the student was following in class. This chapter included graphing and understanding different properties of various functions. He seemed to be very in control, and understood the major concepts very well. I gave him different test taking strategies to help him succeed to the best of his abilities on any upcoming quizzes or tests."
"During this session, I helped the student prepare for her upcoming pre-calculus test. We worked through her review packet (provided by her teacher) titled "Functions (Piecewise, Inverses, and Properties Oh My!)." She had the most trouble with the problem on finding the restricted domain for composition functions and stating the domain for piecewise functions based on the graphs, so I gave her some extra practice problems in these two areas. We went through these problems until she felt comfortable with the material. She was sometimes a little frustrated because the topics were challenging, but was determined to understand them and kept forging ahead. By the end of our session, I felt that she knew how to solve these types of problems quite well and would be able to do so on her unit test."
