"We went over a practice ACT covering algebra, word problems, geometry, and probability. The student did quite well on her own and just needed some walking through for a few of the concepts and a little dusting off of the geometry cobwebs. She, as always, is a great student and excels when she doesn't rush, so I offered her some tips for when she takes the ACT. I told her to save math problems she has trouble with for later, to circle them and go back to them after she's gone through the rest of the questions and completed as many as she can with confidence before tackling the harder ones. She is also getting better at letting go of her calculator, which she often used as a crutch. But the ACT is designed with little need for a calculator, so I showed her how basic most of the math is so she can do most of it mentally or on paper."
"We went over a review of Unit 5 on relationships within a triangle. We then went over the practice exam. Particularly, we proved several problems, then solved triangles for the unknown variable x or segment length. We have been using the properties of midsegments in triangles and the other special segments in triangles."
"We went over a study packet for geometry. The student struggled with recalling topics for questions I've seen her do very well on previously. She has a test next week. We will continue to work on this next session."
"We went over chapters 4.1-4.3. We discussed doing proofs, drawing out the problems, recognizing why they are giving you the information they are giving you, marking it out, and following the marks! The student is improving."
"We went over deriving linear equations that are both parallel or perpendicular to each other. I showed the student how to do similar problems and suggested some websites where she can get practice and check her work with solutions."
"We went over elementary chemical reactions, including replacements, decompositions, combinations, and combustion and their balancing. We also reviewed some geometry homework and the past exams. The student is getting better at constructing the proofs, but there were definitely a few issues with grading that I noticed. I will keep an eye out on future assignments."
