Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I worked on place value and decimals. She brought home homework that was teaching her how to count by tenths and buy hundredths. We continued on that same topic and practice adding tenths and hundredths. We even worked a little on multiplying decimals. She is doing very well overall and really grasping the concept of place value and the difference between tens and hundreds, as well as how to write each type of decimal. She struggled a little bit when we got to whole numbers and counting .99, 1.00, and 1.01. We also worked on multiplication times tables at the end of our session. Her accuracy is improving greatly and multiplication. She did her homework last week and worked on multiplying fours, and it really showed this week."
"The student and I worked on reviewing for an upcoming exam. We did word problems that involved division. he had to analyze whether the answer needed the quotient, the remainder, a fraction, or a rounded up answer. He had to explain his work using words and numbers."
"The student and I worked on short and long vowel sounds. We also worked on double vowel sounds. He is improving his reading skills. He sounds out all the letters when reading words whereas before, he was just guessing based on the first letter sound. He still has trouble with the short e sound at times. We are working on reading a 2nd grade book together. I will bring my tablet so we can work on his phonics and reading a little more."
"The student and I worked on some 1-minute addition and subtraction drills. She did well on the addition drills but had some trouble on the subtraction drills. We also practiced adding and subtracting money, multiplication tables, and writing numbers in standard, written, and expanded forms. She still has some trouble on subtraction problems that involve "borrowing." We will do a heavy review of subtraction next session to help eliminate these weaknesses."
"The student and I worked through her homework today, focusing on ordering, drawing and changing decimals to fractions. After, we focused on 6th grade math including ratios, positive and negatives integers and fractions and decimals. Next week, we will continue in this vein and focus on fraction and decimal equivalents."
"The student and I worked through her notebook, solving fraction relationship problems. I also checked her homework, and we discussed the mistakes (all of them were simple mistakes from just not following through the entire problem). The student is doing very well and has a clear understanding of using all the techniques the teacher is providing her to easily solve problems."
