The student and I went over some of her worksheets during this session. They included finding inverse functions and interpreting them graphically as well as algebraically. Her worksheets also involved calculating values for compositions of functions, which presented a slight challenge for her at first, but after doing several practice problems, she said she was much more comfortable with it. I'm certain she will do well on her next test.

Today I met with student 1 first regarding a few questions he had about a recent quiz. He has been learning about factoring and rational expressions and apparently has been understanding it well, as he got a 90 on his test. Student 2 and I met for an extended period of time to prepare for a math midterm covering all of the topics from this semester next week. She got her logarithm test back and did extremely well, which is great news. She got a 96, third highest in the class. We then began working on a few worksheets that her teacher had given her to prepare for her midterm. The test is covering logs, exponents, functions with domains & ranges, radicals and rational expressions. She has been doing rational expressions most recently and said she has been having some difficulty with the topic. I went through a worksheet on it with her, listing out generalized steps & things to keep in mind for that type of problem. She was very receptive and we made really great progress. It seems like she has a good grasp over the topic. We then went over a general worksheet for the rest of the session, which focused on several of the aforementioned topics. We started going through the topics and making lists of the possible questions that she might be asked regarding each one. Overall I feel like she gained a lot of confidence regarding several topics.

The student completed Unit 4 today by taking the Checkpoint test of 15 questions. He scored 100% on this test with prompting and guidance on writing the questions neatly, being organized and methodical, and some review of basic concepts. He considered the differences and similarities between adding and multiplying. He scored 100% correct answers on a second short quiz as well. He understood which calculations were needed to solve word problems, recalls how to invert and multiply when dividing fractions, and has begun to change mixed numbers to improper fractions mentally. He has gained a firm grasp on reciprocals and how to use them. We then started working on Unit 5 on Solids. He studied the cube and what cubing a number means -- raising it to the third power. He calculated volumes with ease, and grasped the meaning of volume and cubic units.
