Session Summaries by LSAT Tutors

Peoria, AZ LSAT tutoring
The student and I continued to focus on logic games and logical reasoning. He stated that he is starting to see better results when it comes to accuracy. He has a better grasp of the material then when he began, but is still behind on pacing. We then moved on to practice strengthen/weaken logical reasoning questions. His accuracy with these questions is much better and now understands how to attack these questions in a more effective manner. His pacing is a bit behind, but not as much as in logic games. We'll work on that.

The student and I spent our entire session today discussing the different types of assumptions on the test, how to identify them, and strategies for answering these questions correctly. He picked up the material very quickly, and we were able to complete a decent amount of drilling using these concepts. For extra practice, he will be completing another PT and analyzing his incorrect answers to inform our discussion in our next session.

The student and I started the session by proofreading the student's writing sample. We then focused entirely on a reading comprehension practice section where we read each passage, and I had the student point out the main idea of each paragraph, the structure of the argument and the author's main idea of the passage as a whole. She only missed two out of seven on each of the passages. It seems like active reading and summarizing as she goes along is very helpful. This week she will take a practice test and email me the results, in addition to working on a writing sample.

We covered verbal reasoning strategies and worked through problems with text completions and synonyms. We reviewed the steps to take when approaching each problem, depending on the relationship of the words, the buzz phrases, and transitions. The student had a good attitude, and she just needs a little more confidence in her strategies and answers.
