In this session we did a basic introduction to Python. The primary focus was becoming familiar with the Python environment, including using an appropriate text editor to write code and highlighting the relationship between writing code/scripts in the text editor and executing commands in the shell. Some basic syntax and concepts were covered as well such as variable assignment, = vs. == operator, print statements, and function definitions. The student was not struggling with anything in particular, but rather is simply inexperienced with the material and so needs some more exposure. The student was engaged with the material and shows a desire to further her understanding.

The student's class is beginning a new unit on image manipulation using Photoshop at school. At home, he'll use a free web-based tool. His first assignment was to learn how to stamp an image onto a background image. This process involves choosing a stamp image, rescaling it, removing its own background by making it transparent with the wand tool, and then copying and pasting it onto the main background. This exercise is also intended to get him familiar with using some of the extensive features of image editing software. We stamped multiple images with the theme of famous and influential people with autism.
