Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"More math. Reviewed problems worked in class. The student is showing a lot of improvement on functions and seems to have a much better grasp of it. We are starting on functions, but it is mainly calculator based so when he gets the calculator we will go in more depth."
"Reviewed some topics from English and Math sections, then had client take mock versions of those two ACT sections. Posttests yielded an English score of 28 and a Math score of 24. Made plans to review certain Reading and Science components before finishing our posttest the following day."
"Reviewed for the student's factoring quiz on Friday. Factoring mastery looks good! Our 3 takeaways to remember were: check ALL factors of coefficients, use a calculator when doing multiplication/division to avoid making mistakes, and re-expand answers to compare against the beginning polynomial."
"The student worked on the writing section of her SSAT today. She wrote an essay based on the prompt 'It is more important to be kind than it is to be smart.' She made an outline using a 4-square strategy she'd learned in class, and we made sure to include examples from literature and life experiences. She did pretty well with this exercise - she clearly understood that she needed to give reasons and examples to support her argument. I'd like to see her elaborate on her introduction and how her examples support her main argument - hopefully we can work on this during our next session. Her test is in one week - given the progress she has made, especially on her vocabulary, I trust that she will be prepared."
"I met with the student for our first session as she is preparing for the SSAT, which she will take in two weeks. I thought it the logical place to start with math. I was quite surprised when she did very well with math, successfully completely the majority of the basic arithmetic sections of her book without mistake. She will complete additional problems in her book as homework before our next session. During this session, we also discussed the importance of vocabulary, and she assured me that she had been studying the vocab list I sent her earlier in the week. I think she will do well on her exam."
"The student has a good grasp of the French language, and our sessions are reaching the goal of helping her to maintain her spoken French skills in an English speaking environment. A few corrections throughout the conversation allow her to keep the right use and pronunciation of some words that are seldom used. We look forward to our next session."
