Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Today we covered the use of the verb estar with location, temporary attributes for people, etc. We also worked on nationalities with ser, and I assigned homework with two videos to be reviewed next week."
"The student and I met for about an hour. We read chapter four of his book together and worked on his comprehension worksheet. I was pleasantly surprised by his grasp of the vocabulary when we worked through the chapter together."
"Today, the student and I reviewed and expanded on the use of the verb gustar. I thought it best to try to explain again from the ground up how gustar really works and what it most literally corresponds to in English. I think the approach I took this time clicked a little better than previous approaches I had employed. I've been trying to develop more explicitly his understanding of the subject/object distinction and how that plays out in the gustar like verbs. I left him with homework in the same style as the examples we did during the session. In the next session, I intend to continue with this theme and preview ser/estar distinctions."
"We looked at the previous sessions that we had and did a comprehensive review. We then continued where we left off and pursued the next steps. The student was positive and motivated. I will be sending him a document with the newly learned vocabulary and steps."
"The student and I studied for her test tomorrow, which is on the use of por and para. We first began by talking about appropriate times to use these words as well as discussed different phrases that include por and para. After, we practiced by doing fill-in-the-blank activities and translation activities, which she did great on. Overall a great session, good luck on your test tomorrow!"
"Three students attended class today. I began my lesson by returning their first quiz and clarifying wrong answers. The students took their second informal quiz on numbers. We played Rags to Riches on colors and shapes and the ladies enjoyed it very much. The communicative goals for today's lesson are review vocabulary & information from last session, verbs, ser (to be) with adjectives, what are verbs, defining verbs in Spanish, and introduction of the present tense of regular verbs. The lesson went very well and the ladies enjoyed the game very much."
