"Today we had an in-depth lesson for the English section of the test. We talked about the most common grammatical and structural errors in this section including verb agreement, tenses (simple, perfect), and went over irregular past participle verbs. We developed a verb error strategy: identify the subject, check the tense, be concise (shortest answer free of any errors). We also talked about passive vs. active voice. We then moved on to pronouns, which we also developed a strategy for: find the original word the pronoun replaces and make sure they're consistent, then check the case (subject, object, possessive pronouns). We talked about how distracting prepositional phrases can be crossed out to help identify the subject and the verb of the sentence. We discussed the importance of identifying complete and incomplete ideas in a sentence when deciding which punctuation to use. "Stop" punctuations are used between two complete ideas. A comma plus a FANBOYS can also act as STOP punctuation between two complete ideas. We talked about the 4 reasons of when we should use commas, and finally, did example problems until our lesson was over. "

The student should focus on reviewing grammar and punctuation rules as this seems to be an area where he is lacking knowledge. He also needs to continue practicing and working on pacing."

"In this session, the student and I began by continuing to work on problems from the math section. She did well on questions about coordinate geometry, simplifying expressions and solving equations, and writing linear equations based on word problems. However, she was not as familiar with other math terms and concepts that we came across, such as supplementary angles, f(g(x)), and how changing side length of a shape affects its volume and surface area. We worked on these, and also practiced solving problems by substituting a number into an expression for an unknown variable, using relationships between an operation and its inverse, solving for answers in terms of a variable, and solving proportional relationships. In the second part of the session, we worked through three science passages. She understood the passages well, as shown by her summary of two of the passages and by how she explained her thought process for the questions. She did a good job going back to find information in the passage and from graphs and charts, and did well in questions involving the experimental setup. She sometimes had a bit of trouble getting the correct information off of a graph, especially when a question required comparison between two graphs or charts. We practiced how to answer these types of questions by using known information to first read one graph or chart, and then using the new information to read another graph. In her free time, she can continue to practice by checking her timing for individual passages on the science section."
