Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I organized the rhetorical moves for the college application questions. We finalized the first question and nearly finalized another. We are on track to finish the application tomorrow."
"I administered a vocabulary test and the student managed 98%--not too shabby! We then went through several exercises on prepositions and then began the hard work of studying idioms involving prepositions. We spent a good deal of time on that. He has idioms to memorize and I am giving him more tomorrow. He is bringing his personal statement for me to go over and I will have exercises for in/on, the new words, and some logic exercises for quickly building arguments."
"The student sent her personal statement again and she has made tremendous improvements. There are still areas to revise and refine as we hone in on her main theme of the essay. I sent the essay back with my comments."
"In this session, we discussed the student's reading homework, which consisted of reading a ~1 page passage about the author's opinion on cell phone users and answering reading comprehension questions. He consistently referred back to the passage when having difficulty with questions, which was great! Overall he was able to grasp the main ideas and the author's point of view."
"We continued to perfect the student's printing and phonemic awareness. We reviewed vocabulary within text and alone. She has been holding her right arm in a curved position which causes her printing to slant backwards. I am working to correct this with having her sit up straight in her chair."
"Today we went over prompts for persuasive writing, as well as creative writing. We also played games involving spelling, definition of words, and parts of speech."
