Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We covered a review of a critical reading section today. I went over the strategies for that part of the test, and the student worked out of a test prep book. He did quite a number of passages and was getting a lot of them correct. He had a very positive attitude and worked diligently. His results on this last test were much more in line with what he had hoped to get. We also went over practice quantitative comparisons that he did for homework. It was a very productive session."
"In this session, we continued with the same full-length practice test from last time. We spent the biggest fraction of time on the reading section. Entering into the meeting, the student appeared to struggle the most with reading dense passages quickly. Based on my observations, I believe that this same issue persists to some degree. All in all, I really do like working with him because he appears interested and focused in all of our sessions. The main study skill that I expressed today primarily dealt with rewording complex sentences when reading a passage. I think that such a technique allows him to tackle longer passages in a more sequential manner. At the end of the meeting, I recommended using the online flashcards as extra practice. Based on his performance on the questions we covered today, I think that his vocabulary has shown marked improvement."
"We went over the timed practice tests the student took during break - he did a great job! Continuing to fine tune as we move through the last few weeks."
"We reviewed the student's independent work and where he felt comfortable/like he needed more support. Math will continue to be our focus, and we will add weekly practice on test-taking strategies as we get closer to the real-time ISEE exam."
"We spent most of our time reviewing math questions from the student's last practice test. However, towards the end, we also went over some vocab questions as well as her essay. She is doing very well and just needs more practice between now and October."
"We talked about some general test-taking strategies, and I went over vocabulary flashcards as a study tool. The student wanted to focus on math, specifically geometry. We went over the radius, diameter, area, and circumference of circles, equilateral, isosceles, and right triangles, supplementary angles, the Pythagorean theorem, and Pythagorean triples."
