We then discussed the reactivities of acid derivatives and the general addition-elimination mechanism that these molecules follow. Next, we briefly talked about the uses of infrared spectroscopy, and how to read a an IR graph, to identify the presence of functional groups. Lastly, we started to discuss the theory behind Nuclear Magnetic Resonance spectroscopy, and how to determine equivalent hydrogen's/read an NMR graph.

The student has a test on Monday over topics including bonding, electronic structure, and molecular geometry. He had a study guide with many questions on it that he wanted to review, so we reviewed each topic on the guide step by step. He had been studying for the test already and felt pretty good about most of the material, so his grasp of the material was already rather good and he was able to answer the majority of questions already, but we were also able to correct a few misconceptions here and there and fill a few gaps in his understanding (such as with intermolecular forces).
