How can GRE tutoring help you?

The Graduate Record Examination (GRE) is utilized by numerous colleges and universities as a part of their graduate admissions process. It is a standardized test and it takes approximately three and a half hours to complete. The test is made up of four sections, which include experimental or research, verbal reasoning, quantitative reasoning, and analytical reasoning.

The experimental or research section is not counted as a part of your total score. It can consist of either quantitative or verbal questions. The verbal reasoning section is divided into two sections. The first section focuses on reading comprehension, critical reading, and vocabulary usage. The second section places an emphasis on text completion, sentence equivalence, and critical reading.

Today, the student and I focused primarily on the math sections for the SAT. We did another practice section and went over strategies for specific problems. We then began reviewing strategies for how and when to guess.

The student and I worked mostly on reading comprehension today. We focused on a strategy to help him understand passages better, and interpret them more clearly. We worked through some passages one sentence at a time in order to help him become accustomed to analyzing these passages properly. I believe he benefited from this technique and will hopefully be able to utilize it during his homework for next time. We also briefly went over the essays he will encounter on the GRE and general points on how to approach them. For our next session, he will complete a full length practice GRE to simulate taking the test, and see if he can apply what he has learned so far.
