How can a Anatomy tutor help you?

Anatomy is the study of the human body and how it moves. An anatomy course pushes students to learn the scientific names of all body parts, while obtaining a complete understanding of their function and how they work together. These concepts can become overwhelming and complicated for many students. If you're preparing to enroll in an anatomy course, or you're already finding yourself a little behind in your current course, a professional tutor may be just what you need to get back on top. At Varsity Tutors, we can find you a talented anatomy tutor in Pasadena, CA, who can work with students at all proficiency levels.

When it comes to memorizing terms and understanding the chains of function, sometimes a bit of help with studying techniques is all your need to be more efficient. Many students waste a lot of time studying alone and getting frustrated because nothing is being retained. An experienced tutor can analyze you and how you learn best, to teach you how to go about studying in a way that is productive and efficient. This will make every solo study session you conduct more effective for you to actually learn some advanced concepts in anatomy. We can match you with a Pasadena, CA, tutor in anatomy who has the teaching experience to try to make the most complicated concepts understandable.

Pasadena, CA Anatomy tutoring
The student and I reviewed halogenation, substitution reactions, and acidity/basicity of organic compounds. Together we worked through practice problems and his practice exam to prepare for his exam Friday. He seems to have a strong grasp of the material.

Pasadena, CA Anatomy tutoring
Today, we decided to start over in a sense. We began by finding important topics in organic and topics he did not feel comfortable with and began addressing his issues. Our plan is to use the website practice problems until he feels comfortable with the material.

We discussed stereochemistry. How to assign R and S enantiomers and how to identify diastereomers, how to identify meso compounds, and how to draw all possible diastereomers for compounds containing two chiral centers. We discussed using both the Fischer projections and stick model representations.

Today the student and I worked on the "Big 4" reactions. This includes Sn2, Sn1, E1, and E2 reactions. We dedicated a lengthy amount of time discussing each one in length. These reactions are key and fundamental in doing well in organic chemistry 1 and subsequent classes. My goal was to provide a framework for him to work off of at home. I tried to emphasize the trends rather than memorization which many beginning organic chemistry students assume is the most important (i.e. remembering a list of strong nucleophiles). I try to stress the basic chemical properties from general chemistry that are applicable in discerning what a strong nucleophile and what a weak nucleophile would look like. I suggested some practice problems for him to work on and our next session will go through many practice problems to hopefully solidify these concepts by the time his final comes along.

Today we covered stereochemistry: how to draw perspective and fisher projections; how to assign R or S configuration; definition of enantiomer and chiral vs. achiral. We solved the practice problems through the appropriate organic chemistry chapter in the student's book. The session was good, and she felt better about solving stereochemistry problems. She has a good understanding of the topics. For our next session, I will provide a review sheet for the topics covered and some practice problems with solutions as extra practice.

Pasadena, CA Anatomy tutoring
In our session, the student and I covered thermochemistry. He has heard from previous students and from his teacher that thermochemistry is heavily covered on the AP test, and he was feeling very unsure about the topic. We started by talking about the conservation of energy and the first law of thermodynamics. We then discussed energy transfer from potential energy to kinetic energy as well and work and heat. It's very important to keep track of the signs of work and heat from the point of view of the system, in order to get the correct answers for these problems. We practiced keeping track of the signs as well. Then, we talked about calorimeters and measuring heat experimentally. We then talked about enthalpy as a state function and how to tell if something is a state function or not. We then calculated delta h for problems and also used the standard enthalpies of formation to calculate the standard enthalpies of a reaction. We practiced many of these problems. After going through chapter 6 and talking about the concepts, we did some practice problems at the end of the chapter to make sure that the student was able to apply the concepts to problems. He struggled with a few of them, but by the end was doing much better. He should continue to practice the concepts on his own.
