Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We covered a wide variety for topics as a review for the student's upcoming test. She also has her own practice problems and book to go over. After this session, she seemed to really grasp the material a lot better. Overall, this session went really well!"
"The student and I met for our first session tonight. She is taking AP Chemistry and we discussed the topics she wanted to cover for the AP test. She wants to cover topics that she struggled with understanding the previous semester including: applied math concepts in chemistry, chemical equilibrium, quantum numbers and electron configuration, specific heat, band theory, molecular orbital theory, and nomenclature. Using these topics, I will be developing a study plan for the AP test that we will cover during the second hour of our tutor sessions during this semester. After we went over these topics, we discussed the lab that she was going to have in the morning regarding titrations. She had to do calculations in preparation for this lab and we went through each one to make sure she was prepared."
"The student began a new chapter this week. We reviewed rate law basics and did practice problems to determine rates and relationships between rates for different reactants and products in an equation. We also practiced how to determine the rate law equation for a given reaction based upon experimental data. We covered everything she has done so far, and she has shown significant improvement in understanding with each problem. We set up two sessions for next week to prepare for her test the following Tuesday."
"Today we discussed some additional details, concepts, and ideas for the student's internal assessment experimentation. Today we discussed the ways to present the raw data, graphical representation of trends, experimental design, practical theory, student engagement, and conclusion statements. We also viewed a perfect example provided by the student's teacher and discussed the components that made it perform so well. After viewing some graphic comparisons and discussing the features for generating error bars and min/max gradient information, we ended the lesson with some discussion of the trial extensions and discussions for improvements that could be presented as part of the final conclusion statements."
"Today we reviewed all the concepts from the student's Chemistry Unit 3 in preparation for his retake tomorrow. Most of the concepts were quickly recalled after some slight prompting, but for some others I tried various ways of explaining them until we found something that clicked. The main concepts on the test are ionic and covalent bonds, and the student is now able to name, write formulas for, and categorize both types."
"Today we reviewed anti-infective. I think the student knows more that she actually gives herself credit for. She needs to learn the drug classes. I have given her some information to make her studying easier for her."
