Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I worked on algebra II, and we focused on identifying degrees, naming, the different forms of quadratics, the quadratic equation, word problems, multiples, and graphing. I'm confident that she knows how to complete all of the different problems correctly. She has been putting a tremendous effort into her studies, and I'm so proud of her!"
"The student and I worked on calculating molarity of solutions for her chemistry homework. We then switched to math and worked several problems finding the equation of lines from their graph. I am happy to report that she will receive an award for most improved student at her school on Friday. Way to go!"
"During this tutoring lesson, the student and I worked on a 2-page, 39 questions worksheet: "Solving Quadratic Equations." This specific Algebra worksheet dealt with the same material/topics (mainly solving and graphing quadratic equations) that we worked on during Monday's lesson. The student and I reviewed the quadratic equation in standard form (ax squared + bx + c = 0), and how to use that specific formula to graph quadratic equations. He is comprehending -- and retaining -- the Algebra topics that we are reviewing together. He is always focused and attentive to the task at hand. He informed me that his grades at school are improving. He let me know that his current high school GPA is 3.5. Bravo!"
"The student and I had a really great first session. She has a quiz tomorrow on completing the square and the quadratic formula, so my first step was to see how well she understood this material initially. She already had a good grasp of the concepts on her study guide, so we worked through several more problems. I tried to make connections between the concepts, pointing out why she was solving for x and how it related to the graphs she would draw. She made a few simple errors occasionally, but they were quickly recognized and corrected. I provided her with extra worksheets to practice with and encouraged her to work through more problems tonight to prepare her for the quiz tomorrow."
"For this session, we went through completing the square. The student had learned the steps in class but did not feel confident in its execution. We went through numerous practice problems to reconfirm the steps. We also went through her test that she had recently gotten back. She seemed to understand the concept by the end of the session."
"Today, we reviewed all of the topics that will be covered on the student's upcoming test. Topics included solving systems of equations and solving them using elimination and substitution. We also graphed inequalities and found the equation of an inequality based on its graph"
"At the start of the session, I gave her problems to work on as a review from the last session. Once the review was done, I went over concepts of equations of the line, and solving for slope and y-intercepts. I showed her different examples of how to derive the equation of a line given a point and the slope, or just two points."
"Today the student and I worked on sections 8.4 through 8.6. We worked on more problems with relations to the slope intercept form. We did questions in which we had to graph or find the equation knowing two points on a graph. We worked on parallel and perpendicular slopes. She is doing very well in algebra."
"The student and I studied for her test over 8th assessment by doing an additional 2 miscellaneous worksheets. We did the first together very quickly, and on the second one, I marked the problems she usually has trouble with and asked her to do them herself. I was very impressed to see that she was able to them quickly and accurately! I am so excited about her progress!"
"The student is doing great in terms of both his math abilities and his willingness to learn. He is always prepared with questions over topics that have been covered in class as well as things we have covered previously that he feels he needs extra work on. I am very proud of him and his progress this year."
"We worked on solving quadratic equations. The student solved by completing the square, by factoring, and by using the quadratic formula. We also worked on World Cultures, studying terms and also working on a paragraph about the rabbits in Australia. She has 2 pieces of homework for me - 1. Print out a blank map of Oceania. 2. Finish the paragraph on rabbits in Australia."
"The student and I covered her algebra homework on using the distributive property to simplify radical expressions. She seemed very proficient at this work after a little bit of practice. She has been increasingly checking her answers and paying attention to small details as she works through problems. We also worked through a geography essay assignment on South Asia."
