"The student was dealing with a lengthy review for an end-of-term exam, covering a lot of material from scalars and vectors, and kinematics, up through uniform circular motion and centripetal force. I think there may have been so much material that she was overwhelmed at times, but she seemed to be able to assimilate a lot of it quite adeptly. I will be interested to see how much of it sticks when she goes back to review it again. We will circle back to trouble spots next time, but she seems to have the tools to do quite well with it overall."
"Went over the following topics: Thermochemistry: -First law of thermodynamics -Heat capacity -Specific heat capacity -Phase changing/heating curve -Thermochemical equations -Hess's law Thermodynamics: -1st law of thermodynamics -Spontaneous processes -2nd law of thermodynamics -3rd law of thermodynamics -Enthalpy/Gibbs free energy/entropy -Gibbs Helmholtz equation Molecular structure: -CCl4 -H2O We solved some problems related to Gibbs equation, entropy, enthalpy. We solved some phase change, specific heat capacity problems. I provided assistance as she did her homework assignments. The student was satisfied and understood the materials that we went over. We mostly went over the theories and contents and solved a few problems. She seemed to grasp the materials well. Once she starts solving a variety of problems, we can tell how well the student is performing."
"Prepared the student for her upcoming exam on Monday. Reviewed electrochemistry, thermochemistry, solubility and acid/base chemistry. She seems very organized and well prepared for her exam."
"In this lesson we worked on frictional forces. We solved problems involving forces perpendicular and parallel to the motion of the block. We worked with objects on flat surfaces and on wedges. The student is doing well understanding the geometry involved in these problems and deals with the trigonometry well. A stronger understanding balancing forces seems to be developing."
"In this longer session, we covered a wide variety of problems. We covered mostly kinematics problems, of all different sorts of problems. We then moved briefly to Newton's laws problems. She had a very upbeat attitude. It helped her to slowly walk through the problems. I expect her to do well on the kinematics portion of her exam, but she could use some more practice on Newton's laws."
"In this session I helped the student understand the concepts of allosteric inhibition/regulation, other types of inhibition, transcription, and translation. She was struggling to understand the difference between competitive vs. noncompetitive inhibition, but now has a leg up on her classmates because this material hasn't been covered in class yet. She will be getting her score back soon from her test last week, so hopefully it went well!"
