Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We covered material for her biology exam that focused on cellular respiration. She expressed interest in this material and seems to understand it very well. She has a good understanding of the processes and all of the components of the processes. Based on our two sessions, I think she will do well on her exam."
"We started off today's session talking about the student's first exam; What was on it and how she felt about her preparedness. I was so glad to hear that she felt confident about the test, and now we just have to wait and see for the results! No matter what the grade, we agreed that feeling more comfortable with the material is definitely a step in the right direction. We moved right along with the next module, on Proteins. Discussing function and structure, we covered nomenclature to chemical make-up. We created a mnemonic device for all the protein functions and talked a lot about various types of amino acid R-groups. Just skimming the topic of polarity, we will delve into this subject deeper next time. We ended the session with her answering the post-lecture questions, which helped reiterate what we had covered. She did really well on all of the questions! Also, I challenged her to try taking light notes during lecture, so as to keep focused better."
"We covered DNA replication and protein synthesis. The student was good at understand the system. She was engaged and seemed interested in the content. I then assigned her additional practice before ending the session."
"We covered scientific advancements in cell structure and microscopes. The student is a really bright kid and is quickly grasping all of the necessary competencies. He came to the session prepared with all of his homework and material, the session was a breeze. I asked him to get additional information on his upcoming assessments in Biology and Algebra so we could cover those concepts prior to his assessment dates. His sessions will be ongoing throughout the school year, so assignments and assessments will be covered as needed. He is a really bright kid, and I do not foresee there being any issues with him grasping the upcoming material. I'm really looking forward to working with him! :-)"
"We covered the composition of Plant and Animal cells. This included the organelles in each, the differences between the cells and what they contain, and the functions of each organelle. We also discussed the differences of compound microscopes and stereoscopes. We discussed general introduction information about how the tutoring sessions would go. Typically, we will cover new material in the beginning, review that, and then review old material. We also discussed scheduling and what works best."
"We discussed the concepts of cellular respiration and the different steps associated with it, such as glycolysis, pyruvate processing, Krebs cycle, and the ETC. The students seemed to be having some problems with the different electron carriers NAD and FADH2."
