"We covered the concept of cyclohexanone enolates and the relative geometries that lead to different diastereomeres. We identified first the A1,3 strain is preventing the formation of certain enolate confirmations. Next we talked about the approach of the proton approach from the face that forms the chair confirmation because the other approach leads to the twist boat confirmation which is unfavorable. Next we covered Stereoselective enamine reactions. We also covered possible routes of catalyst deactivation with would prevent some catalysts from working. Finally, we worked on a problem that discussed how the rate of formations of a kinetic enolate if slow would allow the formation of thermodynamic enolate by deprotonation."
"We met for our first session tonight. She is taking AP Chemistry, and we discussed the topics she wanted to cover for the AP test. She wants to cover topics that she struggled with understanding the previous semester including: applied math concepts in chemistry, chemical equilibrium, quantum numbers and electron configuration, specific heat, band theory, molecular orbital theory, nomenclature, lattice energy, semi-conductors, enthalpy, molarity, molality, mole fractions, basic organic chemistry, VSEPR theory, redox reactions, and state changes. Using these topics, I will be developing a study plan for the AP test that we will cover during the second hour of our tutor sessions during this semester. After we went over these topics, we discussed the lab that she was going to have in the morning regarding titrations. She had to do calculations in preparation for this lab, and we went through each one to make sure she was prepared. We plan on meeting every Tuesday for the rest of this semester."
"We covered the Lewis structure, stoichiometry, percent yield, theoretical yield and chemical reactions. We reviewed a few problem sets from her homework and I explained how to obtain the answer by showing her and helping her. She understands the basic concepts. I think overall, the session went great."
