Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We worked on problems relating to rates of change today. The student wanted some help with some basic of arithmetic using fractions. I did not leave her with any extra practice problems and do not have any specific concerns."
"I reviewed problems that the student did on his own. We then continued working on the chapter 4 test which included equivalent fractions, changing fractions to decimals, changing decimals to fractions, putting rational numbers in order, and comparing fractions with different denominators."
"Today, the student and I reviewed all of the main Algebra concepts we have covered so far together. In general, he seemed to have retained most of the concepts."
"In this session we covered the binomial theorem and probability. The material on the binomial theorem went very well, and I think the student has a good understanding there. I think she should do fine on any upcoming quizzes or tests. We also had some time at the end of the session so we spent that reviewing more of the material on rational expressions."
"We focused on regrouping. Initially the student was confused. I wrote out steps for how to do it and now he is regrouping like a pro. We will continue to practice regrouping."
"This was our first session. To get a good idea of her understanding of math in general, we reviewed the mini-quiz that the student received (the topic was reflections and translations). She then worked on her homework, which was on rotating figures on a coordinate plane, and determining whether or not two figures are similar (if so, finding the length of the missing side). She seemed pretty happy about her progress with her homework and understanding of it."
"The student and I continued our review, covering rational functions, strict definitions of polynomials, binomials, etc. We also began graphing direct and inverse variations and I suggested that she work more on Foiling and revisiting some of the techniques I've shown her."
"Tonight's session with the student was very good. He has a very solid grasp on the information. We reviewed graphing functions- specifically quadratic, radical, and absolute value functions. We reviewed that for about the first hour of the session. The last 30 minutes, we started previewing the next section - solving systems of equations. He did very well considering that he had never seen the material before."
"The student and I met and I gave him a diagnostic test in general algebra concepts to complete by Wednesday, with a set of instructions (show work, don't use calculator, etc.). We discussed practice books and the online courses he is taking that I will be helping him with. I do not have any concerns; he is a bright kid and seems like he will be easy and fun to work with."
"In my first session with the student, we covered graphing linear equations and solving for intercepts. He is very bright and a very quick learner, so he grasped new concepts very easily. I taught him how to graph lines and find intercepts using equations in the slope-intercept form. He answered the few word problems he encountered in his homework with ease. I have no concerns from this session. I am fully confident that at the current rate he is going, he will succeed greatly on his test on Friday and in this subject as a whole."
"Tried to iron everything out and get him solving inequalities and graphing. By the end he was doing everything by himself. I believe he is prepared for his test Wednesday."
"Today we covered divisibility, summing consecutive integers, and problem solving. The student was able to grasp the topics with relative ease and demonstrated his understanding by responding to questions when asked. I have not detected any reason for concern with this student."
