Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student has made noticeable improvement during our break. She is self-correcting misread words and taking the time to sound out words that are unfamiliar. We spent some time writing and talking about appropriate punctuation. We also will work more on spelling."
"With the student, we worked on understanding and identifying syllables and vowel sounds, as well as creating words using syllables, identification and classification of sight words, and the differences between hard c and soft c. We worked on 4 levels of Bloom's Taxonomy in terms of the use of the short e sound, and we worked on sight words, both novel and known. I left them with an assignment to read and practice sight words, as well as play reading flash games online. Behavior was awesome, focus was great, and I feel like a lot was gained!"
"The focus for today's session was on comprehension and grammar. We also covered a little bit of math. In the area of grammar, we studied adjectives. The student did really well with recognizing adjectives. In reading, the passage we worked on covered prefixes, synonyms, vocabulary and dictionary skills. The student had a little difficulty with prefixes and dictionary skills. I left 2 reading comprehension passages for her to practice with throughout the week. In math, we learned how to round to the ten thousands, hundred thousands and millions. The student was extremely successful in this area."
"The student wrote out the alphabet slowly, one letter at a time. She wrote each letter in random parts of the paper rather than in a row. Then we used a workbook and traced letters with our fingers. We looked at each letter and figured out words that start with A, words that start with B, and words that start with C. Next session we will work on D onward."
"We read chapters 5-7 in our book and answered comprehension questions. The student has strong comprehension skills. He will continue reading books from the reading list and work on the practice packet that I prepared."
"Tonight she worked on her next paper, and review for her English test that is coming up in two weeks. I explained to her the importance of choosing a topic for her paper that would be easy to research. She has to write a history paper from the perspective of- what if a historical event didn't happen. Since she has all the information and resources, this paper should be an easy one."
