Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Today, the student and I discussed his personal statement and focused on cutting unnecessary words and sentences to fit the word count required. He edited what he's written so far for accuracy and specificity, and he brainstormed ideas of what to write for the paragraph that asks the applicant to say why they're choosing the school they're applying to. The student has become quicker to accept changes and better at explaining why a certain change might or might not work. I told him to do more research on the schools he's applying to so that we can focus on that paragraph the next time we meet."
"The student and I had a strong introductory session. I started by listening to him speak about his background and interests and then read his draft, which lacked specificity. Based on our conversation, I gave him a new framework for his essay, and we began to outline its evolution. We also discussed the importance of "show, don't tell" and created a strong narrative for his supplement."
"Today the student and I worked on his university application and essay. He answered the essay question, but just needed to cut down on the total number of words and add transition sentences. I advised him to spend some time editing his paragraph on the university before our session tomorrow. Great job!"
