Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Reviewed limits and differentiation for final. Had several worksheets to look over. Specific questions answered."
"Worked on problems from practice standardized test, topics covered: graphing inequalities, factorization and word problems in preparation for the state test."
"We covered polynomial long division, as well as the fundamental theory of algebra, and practiced solving polynomial equations and graphing them."
"The student has her Chapter 7 final assessment on Monday, so we focused on reviewing the material that would be on the exam. We worked on the Chapter 7 review in the textbook as well as problems from her quiz. She seems confident in her work, and I encouraged her to review fractions and practice word problems."
"The student and I worked on angles, triangles, and quadrilaterals today. He is doing very well; he made a 100 on his last test."
"Today we reviewed the logarithmic concepts we had covered previously and then went over a new concept - the natural logarithm and real world applications of logarithmic functions (compounding interest on principal balance and half-life decay of radioactive isotopes). The student initially struggled as I realized that there were Algebra I concepts that he was having difficulty using (isolating the variable, distributing negatives, adding/subtracting/dividing exponents, roots). This took quite a bit of time during the session as we also tried to review previous lessons on logarithms. He still is much better than when I first started teaching him, and I tried to give a nice balance of praise and critique to get him more motivated. I reassured him that he could do well in this class, but that required him to invest time everyday, even just an hour on busy days, to review and practice. Given that he was doing well in all of his other classes, we agreed that he could afford to simply devote more time to Algebra while not changing his approach to any of his other courses. He stated that he has a quiz coming up on Monday, and I encouraged him to do the best he can - I expect that improvement in the class will be gradual as we have to cover many things from previous math courses like Algebra I. Still, he remained positive despite having to learn and review so many different concepts simultaneously. His attitude has me believing he will continue to improve given guidance."
