Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We created flashcards and reviewed old and new vocabulary, focusing on using context to translate unfamiliar idioms from Spanish and developing mnemonics for memorizing and maintaining vocabulary recall. We discussed her current grammar content and comfort level with it, and practiced conversation."
"In her Spanish class at high school, the student is beginning to work with vocabulary for health and well-being, so we discussed scenarios and her opinions on various matters relating to exercise, diet, things that cause stress, and things that help relieve stress, etc., in order to practice using this new vocabulary. We also reviewed comparisons, superlatives, modes of expressing opinion, the phrase "acabar de" (for expressing recently completed activities), and we practiced talking about the past. Next time we will do more work with pronunciation by using tongue twisters (trabalenguas), as well as working with a brief literary text, or "microcuento." The student's pronunciation and comprehension are improving, and her attitude continues to be very positive."
"The student and I worked on the material that will be on her exam tomorrow. There was a great deal of material to cover in a short amount of time. I gave her some tips on getting through the exam and how to differentiate between the preterit and the imperfect. We covered the reflexive verbs, present subjunctive, and also the conditional tense. It was a good session, and she looked more comfortable and confident in her understanding of the material."
