Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I completed another chapter in the textbook, integrating the material from lecture and class notes. We talked through each concept and he seemed to understand the material well. Since 2/3 of the final exam is on the last chapters of the textbook, we decided to go through those chapters in depth, and he would go over the other chapters on his own and just ask for clarifications on any topics that he needs help with."
"We finished reviewing thermochemistry, mostly in equilibrium constants, changes of Gibbs free energy in standard states and other states. This is one of the hardest areas in general chemistry and the student had a little bit trouble understanding it at the beginning. But after practicing some questions, she became more clear. I told her to review all the notes and questions we did today to become solid on this. We then reviewed a little bit of reduction-oxidation reactions. She seemed to be pretty good on this topic. We will get into more details next time."
"The student and I went over her past tests to help her prepare for her final. We also went over some of the class notes."
"The student and I zoomed in on discussing heat transfer problems in the context of the conservation of energy. She brought many homework problems, and I helped talk her through the conceptual makeup of each problem. By the end of our session, she appeared much more confident in the material."
"Today we took a look at oxidation states and the activity series. The student picked up these complicated concepts quickly, and we will be meeting again next week to prep for his quiz."
"Today we covered problems involving conservation of angular momentum, as well as some involving statics of torque, and forces. The student is very quick in evaluating the problem, and just needs a tip here and there of how to setup the problem effectively."
