Session Summaries by Languages Tutors

Palmdale, CA Languages tutoring
Today the student and I covered a lot of new material, and he is catching on so quickly! We learned how to conjugate -ir and -er verbs in the present, and the material even introduced several irregular verbs which he picked up on easily. He is a quick learner. I am emailing the student a list of the vocabulary words that he needs to memorize. This session was great and his Spanish progress is phenomenal!

The student had just returned from a trip, so she practiced describing things and her vocabulary for talking about the city by telling me a little bit about the city in Spanish. After this warm-up, she told me about the things that she did (using the past tense) during her trip. Specific grammatical concepts covered included: a review of the preterit and imperfect, how to use them together; the participles por/para, the difference between them and how to use them; and talking about time (days of the week, months of the year). In preparation for the next unit in her Spanish class, we reviewed the formation of regular and irregular participles and their uses (as adjectives or as part of compound verbs). Next week, I hope to maintain the entire session in Spanish.

Today I had a good session with the student. We went over the lessons I made up for her to assist her in gaining the knowledge for the final exam. Today we went over the afirmativos y negativos, comparaciones/superlativos. I will make up a PowerPoint to make the comparativos/superlativos easier for her to remember. I have already sent her material on the conditional, preterito, imperfecto, pronombres directos e indirectos for the next session. She was more confident today with the material. She also did well with the debate we worked on during our last session; her professor gave her an A for the presentation.

Today we reviewed a lot of old vocabulary including verbs, foods and animals. They are doing really well, especially with the material that we review frequently. We also began learning some new verbs. They should practice these new words during the coming week so that they can learn a new song next time.

We went over the whole semester's vocabulary including 110 terms. We also did phrases in the imperfect tense and to describe something in the past without indicating beginning or ending. We also did sentences to recall something that used to happen, to describe a date in the past era, and many more of these. We also worked on the preterit tense to indicate beginning, middle, and end. We also worked on translating sentences like after showering I shave and brush my teeth. All these sentences indicate actions we do in a daily basis.

We covered the negative and positive command form with indirect object pronouns and direct object pronouns attached or not attached, as the case may be, in case both "tu" and all other pronouns, including vosotros. We also discussed accent mark placement. We also covered vocab for body parts and morning routine. The student is doing well and his attitude is good. He got an 88% on his last quiz. The mistakes he made were really just mistakes because he was going too fast and wrote the wrong vowels, but it is clear that he fundamentally understands the subject matter.
