Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We reviewed the geometry content that will be on the GRE. The student is able to quickly recollect key concepts from geometry, but she'd really benefit from more regular GRE review. She has a strong foundation in terms of critical thinking and math, but needs to practice to be able to leverage those two strengths at the same time for the test. Next week, we'll do mixed math review for our final session! Great work so far!"
"We went over the geometry chapter in the review book. The student seemed to understand all of the formulas very well, and she did very well in the practice problems we went over. Her homework was geometry practice in the book."
"We went over the structure of the exam and what she did to study for the previous exam. We spent the first portion of our session reviewing the most effective method to do text-completion questions. She knows that she needs to study more vocabulary, but as she practiced the technique she started to be able to answer more challenging questions, even without knowing what every answer choice meant. We then moved on to combination and permutations problems. She really feels that she is not good at math, but with just a few practice problems she was able to successfully answer C/P problems that were very challenging. We ended the session by going over basic probability. Again, she seemed hesitant to believe that she could be good at math, but she caught on to the concepts quickly. For homework, she is going to complete a diagnostic and study vocabulary."
"We went over the verbal section of the GRE today. I prepared questions from the test prep book by creators of the GRE, and had the student do practice drills. She showed improvement in sentence equivalence and did stellar in the text completion portion. I recommended that she continue memorizing her vocab flashcards in order to have an easier time answering the verbal questions."
"We went over the Verbal section of the GRE, going through examples and strategies for approaching the various problem types. We focused on developing a systematic, formulaic approach, a method that would best agree with the student's test-taking."
"We went over the verbal section of the test holistically. We also covered some basic strategies for writing and some for geometry. The student clearly has a stronger grasp on most of the math section than she did coming in."
