Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"For the first half of the session, we worked on multiplying fractions and decimals and simplifying fractions. We also reviewed some of the rules for exponents. In the second half of the session, we did a number of reading comprehension questions."
"The student and I discussed some equilibrium problems. She was having some difficulty understanding how equilibrium works, but after working through some problems, she felt much better with the material and was comfortable solving problems. She was very receptive and was very motivated to work on problems together."
"Today the student and I worked on multi-digit multiplication. We approached problems using two different versions of lattice multiplication. He worked hard for me and towards the end of our session, he requested to do more problems. I am confident that his multiplication skills have grown as he was able to solve these problems independently and correctly. I will be sending home some fraction math problems where he can apply his multiplication skills. In reading, we started a science article about a robot that works in a hospital and helps kids get over their fears. I will be sending home this article for him to finish reading and write a response for me as well as another article on animals adapting to heat with comprehension questions attached."
"Today we primarily reviewed the homework assignments the student had. This gave us an opportunity to continue reviewing grammar concepts. We also continued doing timed practice. He is clearly comfortable answering questions when he is not being timed, but with the timer and the pressure, he sometimes makes small mistakes."
"We covered lessons 13-19 in the textbook. Included in this were precalculus review concepts and a discussion on limits and derivatives. There are some precalculus concepts the student should review, specifically the trigonometric identities I mentioned he should memorize. He handled the new calculus material on limits and derivatives very well. By the end of the session he was able to solve problems on these topics without direction from me."
"We practiced writing complex sentences using sentence frames. The student wrote a paragraph about galaxies complete with a topic sentence, two supporting ideas, and a concluding sentence. Finally, we practiced responding to simple questions using reasoning and complex sentence structure. He did well and is improving bit by bit each time we meet."
