Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We reviewed solving logarithmic equations for the x-variable. The student was a little lost on the properties of logarithmic expressions, so I reviewed them with her and showed her how to use them in solving given logarithmic equations."
"We started covering homework problems on composite functions and the domains of composite functions, which also required a review of setting up interval tables to find the sines of quadratics under square-roots."
"We started the student's work on her online platform. We covered identifying polynomial functions, transformations, and different aspects of functions. No struggling, still catching up on material since she added late but some minor need to refresh on basic algebra skills. All problems worked on achieved 100 through the online platform."
"We talked about advanced trigonometric functions and problems. We also talked about what the arc functions are looking for as answers. We talked about solving problems involving compound trig functions. The student was active and engaged, and seems prepared to demonstrate her abilities on her test tomorrow."
"We talked just a little about the chapter one stuff she had sent. She had not understood it at first, simply due to not having been in the class, but she now sees that it is quite easy. Then, we went over the chapter 2 review sheet."
"We went on to chapter two in the text, polynomial and rational functions. We went over several examples to rewrite an equation as a completed square plus a constant term, which the student's teacher said was "removing the middle number". We went over a number of quadratic equations, and, by rewriting the equations, were able to get the vertex of the quadratic and then solve for x and y intercepts if they existed. Sometimes completing the square was harder on some equations than others. The student jumped in and got the vertices, and we worked through some of the intercepts. She was happy at the number of problems solved. This was our first online session. We will do a quick review tomorrow in person, and continue on with this chapter."
