Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Concepts covered today included reading a story with dialog and quotations, and working with comprehension questions. In math we worked with measurements that included inches, feet and yards. I also introduced multiplication by 6 facts. The student did well today."
"During the lesson, I reviewed multiplying and dividing fractions and mixed numbers with the student. After a short review, she was able to solve the problems independently. The next part of the lesson was a review on converting fractions to a percent. After a few examples, she was able to solve the problems on her own. Next, I introduced a new concept dealing with finding the average from a group of numbers. After I demonstrated a few problems, she was able to solve a few problems independently. Finally, I reviewed a few multiplication facts with her."
"During this session, the student completed the first passage of a reading assessment. We discussed multiplication properties and watched a video online. At the end the the session, she began working on a practice activity for multiplication properties. To practice her multiplication facts, I suggested she work on the multiplication activity on the math website."
"During this session, we started with going over the 9's multiplication table. I had asked the student the previous week to study her flashcards, and I gave her a quiz. After that, we started talking about ordering fractions by finding a common denominator. She completed a worksheet, which took most of the time. While I corrected her work, she chose a math app on my iPad to play, and I reviewed her work with her. Overall, she did well, and I conveyed to her the importance of studying her math facts so she knows them without having to count her fingers. I will be quizzing her again during Thursday's session."
"During today's session, the student and I completed several math exercises. Her behavior was excellent and she worked very hard during this session. We began the session with some multiplication word problems. The problems had at least 4 digits in each number. She soared through this exercise. After this, we worked on subtraction word problems. She did very well again with this exercise. To end the session, we did addition problems with 4 addends. Again she did well. Her mental math skills are improving immensely. I am working with her on 4th grade problems and she is doing well. For the next session, we will work on geometry."
"During today's session, we worked on reading and writing. The student answered reading comprehension questions located in her summer packet, and she practiced proper paragraph structure by responding to a journal question. She does well in general, but she can benefit from practicing paragraph structure."
