Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"During today's session, the student and I completed a review study guide for her upcoming unit assessment. We reviewed properties of exponents, fractional exponents, negative exponents, radical expressions from rational exponents, simplifying radical expressions, adding and subtracting radical expressions, rationalizing denominators, solving a compound inequality, and solving an absolute value equation. He showed mastery of all topics covered today. She feels confident and prepared the assessment."
"He and I took another look at fractions, decimals, percents, and ratios. We then began working on Algebra. He is showing an improvement in his quick multiplication and division skills. This is a great sign, and he should continue to study his multiplication and addition tables."
"He and I worked on sections 5.1-5.6 for his upcoming Chapter 5 algebra test. He seemed to understand the sections well after going over each concept and working problems. He did well with the few vocabulary words he needed to know, and I felt he improved his understanding of word problems and how to solve them."
"He did his homework that he was assigned, and he got all of the answers right. He made some small errors that I pointed out to him, but he quickly fixed them without much guidance. It has been a while since our last session, but he doesn't seem to be falling behind in his classes. I am sure that, based on his homework, he will do well for himself this school year."
"He did not have math homework this weekend, so we spent the session reviewing how to work with fractions and decimals, a topic that he says has always been challenging for him. We did this because fractions and decimals are starting to appear more in his schoolwork. I used visual and tangible models to explain what fractions and decimals are in terms he well understood, and then taught him how to convert one to the other and vice versa. He expressed that as we went along, he understood everything better. By the end, felt ready to tackle them in his schoolwork. Some more practice may be in order for next time, but overall, this was a very productive session."
"He had a pretest and hadn't covered any new material, so we continued reviewing the material from his previous test seeing as his grade was 75%. I'm waiting to see the test so that I can better hone in on what sections are giving him the biggest problem. I haven't noticed any major errors that he is consistently making in the material, but I will continue to review these concepts throughout the rest of the semester so that he is prepared in his future work."
