Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Today we reviewed the radioactive decay paradigm. We reviewed alpha beta and gamma decay. Then we worked on math because he has a test tomorrow. We worked on substituting equations. He knows how to do that well. Then we went back to science and reviewed half lives. The student did great!"
"Worked on reading simple sight word books, shapes, colors and counting homework, spelling and sounding out words ending in -op, and practiced new sight words."
"The student and I did the usual things today: word journal, alphabetizing, writing journal, Singapore math, reading "Miss Daisy," reading about Mars."
"We are going over thinking maps to organize our thinking, getting ready for composition writing and essay writing. The student struggles a little with remembering previous knowledge. His attitude is always positive. He is a fast learner and a joy to work with."
"Today, we played with flashcards, a math puzzle, a worksheet, and a computer game. The student did great on the flashcards, and I think she has greatly improved. The math puzzle was what she had trouble with last time, and doing the same puzzle this time, she was more calm/confident with herself and did much better. I noticed that she only wrote down more difficult subtraction problems. She tries hard to do addition and easy subtraction problems in her head now, which is fine as long as she is comfortable with it. The math worksheet was where she surprised me today. The worksheet consisted of various double-digit addition problems where numbers were missing in the problem as well as the solution, which meant that she had to work backwards and understand the concept of carrying over with addition. I walked her through the first two problems or so, but after that she grasped the concepts fast and was able to confidently complete many of the problems herself with little help. She also liked the challenge, so I will try to do more of these problems with her going forward."
"We worked on the first student's reading comprehension page and I answered her questions. She is an excellent reader but would benefit from spending more time thinking about each question as sometimes she jumps to an answer without getting the facts. We also worked on word math problems. She is very excited to learn. The second student and I just worked on his reading comprehension page. He is improving on his reading fluency and comprehension."
