Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Today we worked on finding complex roots of complex numbers and finding the roots of unity. The student learned quickly and was able to complete her review sheet with some help from me. She worked hard today and began the session aware of what she understood and where she needed help. I also took a few minutes to teach some strategies for mental arithmetic."
"During my session with the student, we covered Conic Sections. We covered how to calculate the vertex, directrix, and focus of a parabola, the vertices, foci, and centers of circles; and ellipses and vertices, foci and asymptotes, of a hyperbola. We worked multiple example problems covering each type of conic section. He had a very solid understanding of all the material covered."
"The session focused on the use and application of the law of sines and cosines. The notes from class were explained and clarified, and the concepts were further solidified with practice problems. The student performed well and seemed to learn the material. Homework problems on the concept were assigned."
"The student had a review sheet for a test next Monday. We went over how to solve these questions. Including solving for exact angles. creating triangles when given a trig value (e.g. sin(x)=3/5) to solve for the other trig values. Then how to use these values in the trig identities and other trig equations (double angle formulas, half angle, etc.)"
"We went over vectors in 3 dimensions. I explained the x-y-z planes and drew a cube within the three planes; the student had to label the coordinates of each vertex of the cube. Then we went over adding, subtracting, and multiplying equations that had x,y, and z coordinates or components."
"We reviewed amplitude and periods of trig functions. Periods were definitely trickier for the student. I told the student to review his unit circle in tandem with looking at sin and cosine functions. He is doing well!"
