Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student is taking his chemistry exam sometime later this week. We continued with a review of the chemistry topics that will be on his exam. We spent half the session on gas laws and the other half on thermodynamics. "
"The student showed me his homework which he had completed--great work and some really well-developed ideas. We read a story from a practice assessment test packet and he completed the comprehension questions. He and I re-read a story he had read in school and I asked him several reading comp questions. His homework is to finish reading and answering the assessment test questions, including an extended response paragraph."
"Met with the student on Sunday at 12:00pm. We reviewed the practice exam that he had taken in class last week. We went through the entire exam again to ensure he understood the ones got right. We then spent our last 20 minutes on the take home practice exam that he was given on Friday and began going over the questions. In asking how he was feeling regarding trig, he stated that he feels more confident - and it is shown in his work and in figuring out questions together. "
"The student and I tried different strategies for answering reading passages, and discovered that for her, the quickest method is looking at the questions first and then going back to find the answers in the passage. We also worked on math using the notecards she'd made."
"The student and I finished up his Spanish homework last night, which required him to answer some reading comprehension questions about some short letters he read, and then write two short letters of his own in response. He doesn't have much trouble understanding the Spanish that he reads in his textbook. We spent some time at the end of the session adding to his "verb chart," a list of verbs for him to learn to use. I think it will be useful for us to continue doing that each session, slowly expanding his vocabulary."
"The family and I practiced vocabulary associated with the calendar, counting, and zoo vocabulary. Student A made a penguin out of paper and glued pieces of yarn together to write the word for penguin in Chinese. Everyone did a great job and was engaged."
